A Zakynthian institution which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Like many traditional tavernas there’s more of a choice at lunch as items will sell out over the course of the afternoon.

Another superb traditional Greek taverna, normally open at lunch, but in the summer months also in the evenings.

Based in the old bus station this is another great choice if you’re looking for quality Greek food.

To Steki Tis Gefsis

Souvlaki and pitta souvlaki are to the Greeks what fish and chips are to the British and this is a great example of the genre. Busy all year round and closed on Sundays. Try the Kontosouvli.

To Stavrodromi

Our local grill house which we’ve watched grow over the years. Try the deep fried courgettes and aubergines.

Many restaurants claim to have the best view of the island, but we think Christos and his family probably do. Good food and excellent pizzas.

Psarou Studios

Our closest restaurant just down the road on Psarou beach. Simple Greek food served overlooking the beach and a great spot to watch the sun set. Within walking distance.

Pains me though it does to say it this is definitely the best ice cream on Zakynthos. Pistachio is my favourite.

There are many boat hire companies on the island, but I have used this firm before and found them extremely good, with the added bonus that they pick you up from Drossia harbour which is only a few minutes drive from the house.

The Venetian Fortress of Zakynthos is located in the place where, according to written testimonies, the walls of the Ancient Acropolis (Psofida) were located. The repeated major earthquakes that struck the island also destroyed the fortifications, resulting in their frequent reconstruction.
